It helped to give answers to these questions, as is often the case, an accident. In 1903, an accident occurred in the laboratory of the French chemist Edward Benedict. Assessing the damage done, the chemist noticed that one of his glass flasks, with the remains of cellulose nitrate on the walls during the fall, crashed, but did not fall apart. Then Benedict developed the first technology for the production of fiberglass composite and in 1910 patented it. Such glasses were planned to be installed in car windows to reduce injuries in traffic accidents.
